Ashley Grey wasn't sure what she was doing here.
Well, no, that wasn't correct. She knew exactly what she was doing here. She was talked into coming to this place by Charlie. Which wasn't a terribly uncommon occurrence. Charlie was one of Ash's good friends, if not her only friend honestly.
Charlie was a different sort of girl. She lived in a completely different world from the one Ash usually traveled in. Ashley was used to a higher society and higher expectations. Do good in school, look your best, act your best, don't make the family look bad. Nurture that ability of yours. She hated all of it. Well, except for that last part. She didn't mind the magic that ran through her family line so much. Charlie, though... Charlie was something new.
The girl was friendly and energetic and unabashedly enthralled by her hobbies. She lived in pop culture, thrived on children's cartoons and adored Japanese animation. She accepted and embraced every nuance of this culture and spread that cheer and adoration to everyone around her.
Which is precisely why Ash was standing in the middle of a Anime Convention wearing a wig and an outfit she would maybe only possibly consider wearing on a normal day. To be fair, she didn't have it nearly as bad as Charlie; who was dressed in a fluffy monstrosity of pink and white... or Bram, who honestly seemed to be taking this cross dressing thing in stride. Not accounting the fact that he too was wearing some fluffy nonsense, it's green and brown tones weren't nearly as sugary and vomit inducing as Charlie's. She'd already given him shit on the dress earlier, but he was soon due for more harassment.
“So... how long is this thing again...?” Ash asked for possibly the four hundreth time. She knew it was a four day event and they had already been here for the first half day, she just couldn't help expressing her animosity towards the entire situation.
It was the first full day of the convention, which meant the first real time they could spend any decent amount of time in the Dealer's Room. Stalls for each separate dealer were set up in a large open area of the convention center to make it easier for the mass of people that moved through to look at the merchandise. Most of it was nothing that Ash was interested in, but she did find her eye being drawn to some of the more fashion oriented things. At the very least, J-fashion had a tendency to coincide with the type of items she preferred.
The convention itself wasn't huge, far more of a local thing, but definitely big enough that you could almost feel the mass of people in the building, even when you couldn't see them. In the case of Ash, this was a little more realistic, as she had been recently working on developing an aural sense. She could sense the presence of people around her and to a certain radius out from there. It wasn't nearly as good as it could be, but it was enough that it would alert her to anything out of the ordinary. Not that everything here wasn't out of the ordinary.
Ash had busied herself looking at some purses with arcane symbols on them when the three of them had gotten done posing for someone's picture for the hundreth time that day. She had no idea what show the three of them were cosplaying from, but it seemed to be popular enough. Probably because one of them was what was considered in some circles a male. Charlie was having the time of her life, or so it appeared, and Ash was just along for the ride at this point. She couldn't possibly gauge Bram's attitude, as the fucker auto resorted to doing things ironically like anyone actually gave a shit so it was impossible to tell what he actually thought about anything.
For the most part, Ash's plan was to follow Charlie around and try to avoid any fanboys... or girls... honestly, any fans at all for whatever it was she was cosplaying as. She didn't want to get stuck trying to talk her way out of someone gushing all over her... especially because she seemed to be a popular character.
Two more days of this. She could do it.
